The Cremation Process

Todays Funeral Services

What is Cremation?
Cremation is the conversion of a body to ashes. Under this process the body and coffin are placed into a special kiln (known as a cremator) and burned at temperatures of up to 900 degrees celsius. This reduces the body to ashes which are then placed in a special urn. The family may then choose to inter (bury) these ashes according to the wishes of the deceased.

How are cremated remains kept secure?
Rigorous security procedures apply to every cremation. Prior to cremation every coffin is allocated an identification plate with a surname and a reference number. This plate follows the coffin through its journey from transfer to storage to cremation and handover to the family. Every cremation is kept entirely separate and at no time is identification removed. This ensures the sanctity and security of remains at every stage of the cremation process. To learn more about cremation, please contact our staff on 03 9737 2300.

What happens to the coffin?
At no time is the body removed from the coffin – both are placed together in the cremator. Any metal handles or fittings on the coffin are separated from the ashes and buried in the cemetery grounds.
